2016 - Gospel Image Award for Best Contemporary Female Artist 2016 - Radio Alliance Award
As an artist who was signed to a major record label Mercury Records in the 90's and now an international inspirational award winning gospel artist signed to Sony, I'm passionate about singing and writing songs. I've been teaching voice lessons for 24 yrs and counting, and now I incorporate development and performance. I started singing as a little girl and been singing ever since. Now I love giving back by teaching skills I know works and sharing my expertise about the music busines. I love giving back.
I began teaching voice lessons in 1995 while living in Los Angeles, CA. I worked with many production and management companies developing unsigned and signed artists. I started teaching one-on-one so the students could get the results for strengthening their voice. As I always say "Singing is Breathing" so the first exercise I teach is proper diaphragmatic breathing to increase vocal range. Because of my experience and readiness, I joined AFTRA/SAG because I was constantly working on projects. I also traveled to different cities developing workshops and seminars to recruit students.
I love working with younger students because it's important to remind them of the importance of exercising your vocal chords properly. I also discuss the importance of eating the right healthy foods to maintain a healthy voice and lifestyle. I often invite the students to my events to encourage them to continue to be disciplined and learn all they can while they're young. I keep the methods basic so the students can always remember a good foundation for maintaining a healthy voice. Because I'm passionate, the students stay passionate too.
My teaching style is simple and basic. I encourage them to bring water and recording devices. I remind them to keep a positive attitude before we start. We always begin with breathing exercises, scale exercises, warm ups and resonance strengthen and vocal agility. I encourage them to understand how important it is to use your diaphragm to transition in the head voice for great tones and control. I teach the students how to use the resonance to increase tone and volume and use the head voice for less tone and volume.
