ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

Southeastern Louisiana University, Guitar Performance

Overview:

I love playing and teaching guitar to anyone who is willing to learn. I love spending time playing guitar and talking about music. I spend most of my day practicing guitar and I'm willing to show you how to practice and become a better musician. I want my students to learn the proper techniques as well as learning how to express themselves and make music so that they can perform or simply play at home. Making music is what it is all about and that is what I am going to show you how to do. I can't wait to get started!

EXPERIENCE

My teaching career began around 15 years ago when I was hired to teach guitar at a privately owned music school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Since then I have taught guitar at Louisiana State University as well as various music stores, privately owned music schools, and in home in various locations in an around Baton Rouge and the Acadiana area. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I emphasize as it tends to help the student progress faster and gain more passion for the instrument.

METHODS USED

For beginning students who wish to learn how to read music, I typically start with the Berklee Method Phase 1 book by William Leavitt. This book is great and gets you playing in no time while learning the fundamentals of music. For adults or more advanced students, I want to help guide the student in their interests. The student's level of technical ability will be assessed and exercises to improve technique will be stressed as well as learning scales, chords, and songs helping the student to increase their ability and repertoire.

LESSON STYLE

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a student's desire to progress and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. I can't wait to meet with you and start the road to learning music and becoming a better musician!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
