Hi! I'm a professional singer, actor and voice teacher and I absolutely love to teach my craft. I've had the great fortune to teach and perform all throughout the country and I love to share my knowledge and experience with my students. As a singer/actor I have performed in new works, readings, and concerts with Prospect Theatre Company, The Second Act Series at 54 Below, Astoria Performing Arts Center, New York City Children's Theatre, Rockwood Music Hall, and The National Arts Club. Regional Credits: The Diary of Anne Frank (Anne), Guys and Dolls (Sarah Brown).
Seven years ago my career as a musical theatre actor led me into the world of teaching and for that, I could not be more grateful. I have a great deal of experience working as both a voice teacher and a musical theatre teaching artist. As a voice teacher I have taught with Kathryn Brickell Music, Acting Out- Brooklyn's Premiere Acting School, as well as my own private studio. I also work as a musical theatre teaching artist with Inside Broadway, Camp Broadway, and New York City Children's Theatre. I truly love teaching voice and I find that my classical training combined with my background in musical theatre serves extremely well in my teaching. I also love to help my students prepare for musical theatre auditions.
Beginning students who are children are introduced to the joy of music not just by singing songs, but in a course that teaches music literacy, vocal technique, and ear training as well. Most importantly, we are having fun while taking this journey. As for older teens and adults, I discover what interests the student and guide my instruction accordingly. We typically spend the first 30 minutes working technique exercises; this includes focusing on body awareness, the movement of breath, and core of the sound. We then spend the next 30 minutes working repertoire and putting our technique work into our songs! I am extremely passionate when it comes to healthy singing and I believe that armed with the proper tools and techniques, anyone can learn to sing!
One of my favorite parts of teaching is supporting my students in the development of their authentic voices. Every student is unique and special in their own way, that's why I tailor each lesson for that specific student and I meet them exactly where they are. This allows the student to progress at their own pace. I encourage this development by setting realistic goals for each lesson, and acknowledging their accomplishments. This fuels their desire for progress and further learning! Students leave each lesson with a clear understanding of how to practice and work on their own in the coming week.
