I am a passionate music educator who has taught piano at all ages and levels. I am currently an elementary school general music educator, and have instructed music history courses on the university level. I am an active performer as well, so am able to bring authentic experience to my students that helps them to reach their maximum musical potential! I am an avid advocate for arts education, and believe that students of all ages and levels of experience benefit from exposure to the creative arts.
I have been teaching music since 1995 to all ages and levels. I enjoy motivating students to reach their artistic potential, and to have fun along the way! I have taught university-level music courses, and am presently teaching elementary school music classes. I am also a mentor teacher for teaching artists in the Baltimore-Washington area via Young Audiences of Maryland, Prince George's County Public Schools, and the Teaching Artist Institute. I serve on multiple arts integration in education committees throughout Prince George's County.
I individualize my instruction based on each student's musical background and goals. Each student is unique, and has his or her own unique learning style. However, for beginning piano students I tend to start with either the Bastien Piano Library, Alfred Piano Library, or Faber Piano Adventures to provide a basic groundwork and methodology. For vocal students, I craft their study depending on the style of music that the student expresses an interest in and organize their technical studies to accommodate that vocal style.
I am committed to helping each student reach his or her musical potential, and believe that this should be a fun-filled process. While I am a strong proponent of the importance of proper technique and form, I also strive to make sure that the artistry is never lost in the learning experience. I encourage students to set goals and to maintain a practice and study plan that enables them to achieve those goals. By learning what a student desires to glean from their music study, I can tailor their experience to ensure that they have a successful outcome.
