I am a devoted and energetic teacher for all age students who is focused on results and have successes bringing the ability of the student to play effectively from the first lessons. Fundamentals are covered in early lessons for the beginning student who can then move rapidly into playing their preferred style of music. Teaching is accomplished with friendly and caring delivery of new concepts and repetition of new ideas on the keyboard right from the start of lessons. A diverse range of musical genres is available for coaching.
I have been teaching piano professionally for over eight years in a variety of settings, including music stores and my own extensive in-home lessons which I maintained successfully for six years and continue to this day. I have classical western music training and won a scholarship out of high school. A variety of musical styles is available for learning as I have performed professionally in the Jazz dinner music scene, disco bands, and while a student in Paris, France in jazz/blues clubs, 'Caves'. Similarly while at the University of Massachusetts, I studied and recorded Jazz/Rock fusion out of my participation in the university Jazz Workshop and have music streamable on YouTube and Spotify serving as examples of the improvisational approach to making music.
There are a variety of suitable musical aides to use in teaching. Many different publishers and authors of study books are available and I am familiar with more than several of them. Age and maturity/attention span of the student will help to determine which books to select. Often a generally creative adolescent will prefer picture books of music to begin with. Adults can be engaged in fundamentals of music theory with piano playing in mind and receive more conversational instruction as appropriate with adult music to practice and play.
Here a student and teacher relationship is fundamentally based on speed of absorption of the concepts and coupled with the fun and enjoyment of learning a new thing every lesson. As time permits, I teach with the goal of a new take-away from every lesson which gives the student something to practice for the next lesson. I am more interested in the student grasping a new idea and playing that something new during the present lesson than a strict adherence to the time as in the lesson duration and end time of the lesson.
