ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
BM, The New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, Vocal Performance Associates, The University of the Arts, Vocal Performance, Minor; Musical Theatre
Overview:
I am a passionate and persistent vocalist who is eager to spread her joy of music with her students. I believe everyone has different vocal needs that should to be met by an experienced teacher. For this reason, I have studied with numerous vocal coaches throughout the tri-state area learning different techniques in order to teach my students with the best capability. I have been trained for a bachelor of music degree in Philadelphia and New York City, two of the most diverse music centers in America. That experience, which I am so grateful for has introduced me to the skills I need to work with a band effortlessly and be fluent in different genres of music. I am flexible, able to travel and eager to work with new students.
EXPERIENCE
I have experienced things that at a young age I shouldn't have. I was taken advantage of, business wise and never truly directed or instructed on the right things to do while I was studying music in my teens and younger. My goal is to make sure this doesn't happen to my students. I want better for them then I ever had for myself. I have knowledge of the music industry and how it works and why. I have studied throughout the tristate area with professionals while working at BMI. Having close relationships with my colleagues and coworkers, I asked many questions. I finally received very interesting answers, ones I intend on spreading to my students so they may not make the same mistakes that so many aspiring artists and myself all have made.
METHODS USED
In our first lesson, I will ask that they bring something to record their lesson with. I will warm the student up vocally, in order to hear their range, capability and level of skills. I will then ask them to sing a little something for me, something they love that they're passionate about. From there I will be able to understand what they need as far as technique training. I will also be able to see which direction the student wants to take in terms of genre. I will give the student homework each week in order to make sure they are practicing so they may progress in their studies. I will teach, along with vocal technique, basic piano skills and ear training skills that will be pertinent to those beginner and intermediate aspiring, professional vocalists. If the student is younger, then my previous statement may not completely apply to them. I will teach the student basics of technique and try to make it as interesting as possible while they have fun. Music is an experience, something to be enjoyed, I will never have my students being bored in their lesson. The goal is to always have them engaged and to open their minds to the magic of music.
LESSON STYLE
Teaching is something I truly love. I love to see my students progress and succeed in the areas of music they choose. This is why I work hard to look for outlets for my students, if they so wish, to perform. I think that music is healing a way to express yourself and communicate with out ever speaking a word. I want to teach that to my students. They need to know that they can be who they truly are and still make a mark on the world. The way they can spread this joy of music is through performance. I hope that my students pursue they're dreams always, whether it be music or something else, I hope to bring their true selves to the surface.
