ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
BA, State University at Oneonta, Oneonta, NY, Music Business
Awards:

1999 - Released an album on Escape Records called R.U. Wilde with the band Allied Forces.  On the album I'm playing the bass guitar, acoustic guitars, vocals, and wrote several of the songs.

Overview:
I've been playing bass for over 30 years and still love picking it up to learn new songs, styles and various approaches to the instrument and the song.  I enjoy teaching students and seeing the satisfaction from them as they get better and progress in their playing.  I've been fortunate enough to having played bass through the years with (however brief) Ace Frehley from Kiss, Eddie Ojeda from Twisted Sister and various members of Cheap Trick, Anthrax, Black Sabbath, Frehley's Comet and Badlands.  I'm a graduate of SUNY Oneonta where I majored in Music Business and then went on to work at Sony Entertainment in NYC for 15 years as Director of Business Affairs handing various artist and licensing issues with everyone from Bob Dylan's manager to Bruce Springsteen's lawyers, from members of Kansas to Barry Manilow's manager, from the President of Sun Records to Sharon Osbourne to George Harrison's estate...and much more...
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching bass guitar about 25 years ago in Rockland County, NY in a small music school in New City. I've also taught privately in students homes and my home studio for many years.  I've taught all styles of playing from classic rock to Johnny Cash, from Metallica to Motown, from The Beatles to Iron Maiden. Being well-versed in so many differnt styles of music opens up many possibilities and approaches to coming up with creative bass lines to compliment and construct a track, and keeping up ones playing at a high level of musicianship.
METHODS USED
I'm big on ear training and hearing where the bass fits in in the context of a song.  The student will pick the songs they want to learn and I will show them what the bass is doing and why.  For beginniners we will go over all the notes and what notes go into various chord structures.  I am very patient and will never rush a student.  They must learn at their own pace so they can enjoy what they're doing.  If they enjoy the process and the experience the more they will want to pick up the bass to play, and the more they pick up the bass to play the better they will become.
LESSON STYLE
I truly enjoy seeing my students get better and better  - then I know I'm doing my job.  That also means they are enjoying themselves and enjoying the process of learning and the fact that their skill level is increasing - and that's exciting to witness.  I'm very encouraging, patient, and go very slow to make sure the student is understanding the instruction.  My focus is on the student, their interest in the instrument and if they are enjoying the experience.  I will always encourage open and honest communication so that the experience is rewarding, and ultimately inspires the student to learning more and progressing.
