I started playing the guitar in the jazz band at high school. I have played at various venues including Schools, Churches, Weddings, and Entertainment Clubs. I have always had a great passion for music and the desire to make music a life long pursuit. I have been fortunate to have studied with some of the best guitarists in the Chicagoland area. My interest in music is diverse starting with my Garage Band days while still in High School until today where my interests have lead to the study of the Classical guitar.
My teaching expertise goes back to my high school days as I began teaching my friends and family how to play. I continued to learn and pass on what I learned to my fellow students in college and beyond. I believe learning the instrument should be an enjoyable experience for the student and the lessons should be geared toward the students interests. I strive to inspire the student's interest in music and the guitar. In addition to introducing the students to the best methods for holding and fingering the guitar, I also share other aspects of practical and theoretical music knowledge.
For beginning students, I introduce them to the guitar through a beginners guitar method. Once the student has accomplished the fundamentals, then we work on an individual piece in preparation for a performance. I will determine what the student is interested in musically in order to tailor the lessons to keep the student engaged no matter his or her ability level. My philosophy is one of encouraging the student to believe in themselves and to instill confidence so as to help the student overcome any obstacles.
My style of teaching allows the student to make discoveries about themselves regarding music in a gradual self awareness method. I provide examples of music not only related specifically to the guitar but additional styles and instrumentation. I would like to see each student progress at his or her own pace. This is encouraged by setting realistic goals for the student for each lesson. The objective should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time -oriented. Acknowledging a student's progress and accomplishments is very important to reinforce the student's positive learning experience.
