I am a musician with a true passion for teaching the art of music to individuals of all ages. Music has been a part of my life since I started [laying the guitar 45 years ago and I have been professionally instructing for 30 + years. I gained my music education in "Advanced musical studies" by attending years of lessons with several private and University instructors in Michigan. I own the Oakland guitar studios located in West Bloomfield and South Lyon since 1993. I started my own publishing company, Conduire Music Publishing in 2012 and I am the proud author of 8 top selling music education books which have been sold all over the United States as well as in Europe.
Music is my calling in life. My career in teaching started 30 + years ago and it has truly been a pleasure to see my students light up when they learn the songs they love. I started by offering private lessons in 1992 and soon had many requests from other students. I offer lessons for both electric and acoustic guitar as well as piano. Along with instrumental lessons, I teach music theory workshops for song-writers and music engineering workshops for musicians. I offer lessons on location, in your home, online, and through community education/Recreation programs.
When I start out with a new student I like to see what kind of learning works best for them. Are they a visual, audio or tactical learner? from there I modify each lesson for each individual student. I make sure my lessons are a very positive experience with no criticism. I teach with charts, tablature and standard notation. My primary method of teaching is to have my students study from my own books, in addition to publications by Mel Bay and Hal Leonard. I teach several styles of music from rock & roll to Country, blues to R&B and many more in a positive, proactive and enjoyable learning environment. My students learn chords, scales and music theory. I also teach my students how to maintain and care for their instruments.
My success stems mostly from the fact that I make learning very enjoyable. I am here for the students and to assist them in studying the principals of music and their favorite artists. As a music instructor I set individual goals and tailor all lessons to the needs and pace of all students. I know how important it is as a teacher to pick up on when my students are having trouble or feeling overwhelmed. I improvise and tweak each lesson so that I know my students have a clear understanding and are comfortable before moving on. There is a profound sense of pride for my students and myself when we reach a goal and are able to set another.
