My name is Wendy. I love teaching piano with children and adults and sharing my love of music. I have taught piano for 20 years. I believe every student is a STAR and I believe everyone has strengths. I enjoy working with students to find music that complements those strengths. I use Faber music methods and teaching style. I can teach ages 7-80, Beginners through Intermediate. I have an extensive background in classical piano and musical theatre. I sang in the chorus of an Opera Company. I have taught piano to children and adults with special needs. Currently, I volunteer for memorial services and chapel services in my community. I lead sing-a-longs of Reminiscence music from different genres. I look forward to talking with you about your student's needs. Lessons will be held at my location in Bloomington,Minnesota at Presbyterian Homes of Bloomington.
I have been teaching students of all ages in my home studio for the last 20 years. I've found that a combination of modern and classical music and music genres that the students enjoy can help students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice. I enjoy having recitals to help the students to feel good about their accomplishments. I am a very patient teacher that gives the students much encouragement and positive reinforcement. I believe the lessons need to be fun too for the student to progress and gain a love for piano. Lets get together to enjoy the world of music!
I start usually with Piano Adventures by Nancy and Randall Faber including Technique and Artistry Book, Theory book and Lesson Book . Additional solo repertoire might include Faber books on Jazz and Blues or Musical Theatre or Classics for children. Adults may start with Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course. I tend to custom the lesson plans related to the students interests too . I try to find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction to keep the lessons uplifting and inspiring no matter what the ability level.
It is important that each student progress at his or her own pace. Encouragement is given by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps engage a students desire to progress and make students eager to learn more. By exploring what inspires the student, I can tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. An example is using the Faber and Faber book PlayTime Piano Rock'n'Roll and learningRock Around the Clock or Rockin'Robin and PlayTime Piano Classics such as Lullaby by Brahms or Country Dance by Beethoven. It is just a joy to see students develop a love for music!
