Bachelor Degree: UC Irvine
I am an energetic instructor who loves to share my love of music and theater with my students. I graduated with a theater degree from UC Irvine, but have significant musical/voice training as well. I was a professional musical theater actress for 10 years and also spent 4 years performing on Cruise Ships in revue companies and as a headliner. I have performed in Carnegie Hall and all around the world. As a musical theater teacher my students have earned top honors at their local and state festivals. I am classically trained, but specialize in musical theater.
I began teaching right after college, but put that on hold when my career took off. After having children, I returned to teaching and have taught in schools and privately for the last 15 years. I teach a classical , bell canto foundation so my students learn how to use their voice properly and then add different techniques to help them shape their sound for different styles of singing. I specialize in helping musical theater singers find and strengthen their mix and belt voices. I also help students with audition prep. I encourage my students to perform in recitals, competitions and theatrical performances to exercise their new skills. I look forward to helping new students of all ages.
My lessons typically start with stretching and breathing exercises and then transition to vocal exercises. The vocal exercises serve to strengthen their technique and solidify skills needed to tackle their song. I always ask my students what kind of music they are interested in and find songs to work on that will help strengthen their voice, but also connect with their soul. We will "workshop" their song to work on vocal production as well as fine tune their presentation and performance. I provide students with a warm up CD and background tracks to all songs they are working on so that they can practice at home.
I love to see my students realize their growth as they work on their singing. The way their faces light up or the way they grow an extra inch with pride simply fills me with joy. I tailor each of my lessons around the student that I am teaching because no two voices are alike. I look for their strengths and help them showcase those and I discover their weaknesses so we can strengthen those. I encourage each student to recognize their growth so that they continue to be excited with their singing.
