Hello! My name is Wil and I am from Kansas City, new to Denver! I have had the extreme fortune of studying, teaching and playing all around the world with different cultures and genres of music. I have lived, played and taught in Kansas City, Dallas, San Francisco, Oakland, Australia, China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Mexico, Chicago, Nashville and finally Denver. I'm here to stay for a good while too - I aim to create lasting relationships with my students. I taught AP music theory while I was IN high school, graduated as the top pianist of one of the top 10 jazz bands in the USA. In college at SMU, I studied finance, but quickly got a double in music, studying classical music under Alfred Mouledous (world renowned pianist) and focusing my free time on jazz. I played and taught at a company called ABMusic in Perth, Australia which taught Indigenous Australians how to assimilate into soceity through the use of music. I recently moved here from Nashville, where I was teaching private lessons and group ensembles at Belmont, Vanderbilt and the Nashville Jazz Workshop.
- 10+ years teaching- 15+ years playing- can play 10+ instruments in addition to piano- diverse range of genres (synthesizers in alternative bands to concert piano to new age to jazz and everything inbetween)- understanding of audio production/recording
I emphasize the benefits music gifts us in regards to developing the brain as much as possible, while making music fun. No matter the style, the psychological benefits music offers are limitless. Giving the whole musical experience keeps people wanting to play and wanting to better themselves as individuals.Whether you want to learn your favorite pop song or a full Beethoven concerto, to anything inbetween, I will personally write a lesson plan for each individual student. We work together to come up with the "best" method for you.The books I use are part of my service I offer so I will disclose that information when the time comes!
Being able to teach others and share my knowledge is what drives me, so I like to see progress. I have a goal-oriented approach that differs depending on the individual, but the results are always there. I love feeling the satisfaction of a student learning. Not to mention the relationships that are built and how much I learn from them in turn! It truly is a give and take relationship, just another individual sharing experience and knowledge.
