Music is my passion and I love sharing that with others! I am a recent graduate of Miami University with a Bachelor's of Music in Vocal Music Education with a minor in musical theatre. I've had a wide array of experiences in both the education and the performing world. On stage, I studied in Graz, Austria with the American Institute of Musical Studies performing German lieder in their masterclasses and studio recitals as well as showtunes in their "Broadway in Love: AIMS in Graz!" concerts. I've also performed with Miami University Opera, Stage Left Theatre, The Carnegie in Covington, KY, and was in the pop acappella group Soul2Soul being featured on their albums "Ghost Town" and "Lights Out". I've been lucky enough to also be a finalist in the Greater Cincinnati Campus Superstar Voice Competition as well as win the category of Senior Men in the 2018 Ohio NATS Voice Competition.
While gaining my Bachelor's degree in Music for Vocal Music Education, I gained experience teaching private lessons, musical theatre coaching, as well as large group music classes with students ranging from Kindergarten to College. With this range of students, I've found a great balance of having fun with learning great work ethic and professionalism. Students will grow as singers and performers through consistent lessons and daily individual practice working on everything from singing basics and vocal health to stage presence and interpretation. My experience has trained me in the voice genres of classical, musical theatre, pop, gospel, jazz, and more. I'm excited to see how I can help students grow and have fun singing!
For all students, I begin with classical fundamentals such as body alignment, breath support, and resonance and moving to topics including diction, vocal health, interpretation, and stage presence. I will work with the student to find repertoire that will best fit their voice, help achieve their musical goals, and be aligned with what they enjoy musically. I would love to find opportunities for students to perform their repertoire and show what they have learned whether that is a private recital for family and friends or a voice competition.
Before I begin teaching a student, I sit down with them and discuss their musical goals, their lifestyle and vocal habits, and what music they listen to for fun. These questions will help drive my teaching of the student and helps me design lessons that will help them grow. I will return to these goals along the student's journey to use them as markers and edit the goals as needed. I am encouraging to my students and I have expectations of behavior and student work that will be agreed to in our first meeting. I set out to create an environment that is positive and open for all students and will discuss any accommodations that students need to have the best learning environment.
