Asscotiates Degree in Music & Technology, Atlanta Institute of Music & Media
Overview:
I'm a musician who loves to work with students and challenge them. In 2014, I graduated from the Atlanta Institute of Music & Media with a Certificate of Musicianship in Bass Guitar. Outside of teaching, I am gigging constantly throughout the Southeast. I am honored to have been able to open for the world touring band Black Tide, as well to have performed live on WUOG 90.5 FM and WREK 91.1 FM. I am always looking to grow and find to news way to challenge myself in music. It is important to remember that we never stop learning.
EXPERIENCE
The beginning of my teaching experience started when I was attending the Atlanta Institute of Music & Media. As I was studying, my fellow classmates would come to me if they didn't understand something. My peers would often tell that a natural ability teach and to break things down into ways that were easier to comprehend. After graduating, I began teaching out of several music stores. Some of which I still teach at today. Since then, I have been able to spend the last 6 years refining my teaching methods. And I've been able help students make sure they understand what exactly it is they need to do, in order achieve their goals.
METHODS USED
When it comes to my approach, I usually structure my lessons around each student's personal goal. The main book I teach out of are the Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books. While I still use others, these are the most reliable and consistent when it comes to teaching. From there, I also include songs that are based around the style and technique that the student is trying to achieve. Once the student can finish a musical piece, I always encourage them to play a show or recital. The ability to play live is the ultimate reward of practice.
LESSON STYLE
I can't stress enough how important practice is. That being said, I do not encourage students to practice material that does not contribute to their goals and interests. That is why I sit down with students and them write out their own practice schedule. The topics on the schedule should relate they're interested in playing. And yes not every topic will be fun, but with time and patience the students will see the benefit in their playing. It takes a lot of hard work to do what you love, but in the end reward is worth it.
