Overview:
Hi, My name is Will. I love working with beginner students as well as those who have already developed their musical skills. I'm an easy-going person who feels that music should be enjoyed, but also encourages students to challenge themselves and reach for their highest potential. I have found that when students like the pieces they are playing, they will put more effort into learning them and therefore will develop their skills more quickly and completely. I am a member of Music Teacher's National Association. 
EXPERIENCE
I have taught privately for 10 years. I have worked with a variety of ages.  I am also quite active as a church pianist and an accompanist for school choirs. 
METHODS USED
The methods which I primarily use are the Piano Adventures and Alfred piano methods. I like them because they present the material in a logical, fun, and attractive way. I also supplement the method books with music that is tailored to each individual student. I am open to other methods if the student requests. For example, if a transfer student has been working in a different method, I am open to continuing in that method unless I feel that it does not mesh well with my own teaching styles and methods.
LESSON STYLE
Most lessons involve sight-reading, theory, and repertoire. I try to find a balance between introducing new music and reviewing older pieces. I am not a task master, but I do love to give positive reinforcement and praise for quality work and effort. I encourage my students to give me honest feedback on the material that they are working on. I will often ask them if they like the music they are playing or if they have any specific requests. I try to accomodate all reasonable requests to the best of my ability.
