Hello, thank you for visiting my teacher profile. I'm an experienced guitarist and violinist with over a decade of experience into both instruments. I've studied classical guitar methods through school and various other genres in my free time as well. I've played with various bands throughout my musical career across many stages. As a violinist, I've played with orchestras at advanced levels. I've also played with fiddle groups and mariachis leading to a uniques perspective of the instrument.
My teaching experience began back in high school tutoring students over their parts in the orchestra. I've had many private students since then from children learning fundamentals to adults brushing up on their old blues chops. For me, every music teacher I've had as made a deep impact on me as a person and as a musician. I approach every student with respect and try to meet them wherever they may be on their musical journey. Every student I teach is different and has different needs. I try to mold my curriculum to the student ensuring a personalized lesson.
For beginners, I start with Suzuki school violin and guitar books. Once the student has a grasp of the fundamentals I introduce pieces or may have the student pick out a pice they'd like to work on. For more intermediate players I generally try to help them with music they may already be working on and give them studies to practice relevant techniques. Regardless of instrument, I take both a technical and theoretical approach to teaching. So practicing proper posture and hand technique and learning standard notation scales and chords is core to my curriculum.
My teaching style promotes good healthy practice habits as well as setting goals both short and long-term. At every lesson, we set goals to accomplish during the session. as well as practice goals to accomplish before the next session I believe the key to learning a new instrument is in a comprehensive approach that not only teaches the student how to play music but helps them to understand it on a deeper level. I encourage my students to find music that inspires them and I try to cultivate this inspiration to push them to continue to learn outside of the lesson.
