MM, Ithaca College, Piano Performance
2016 - Ithaca College Graduate Music School Student Scholarship
I am a passionate piano instructor who loves sharing all my love, and study experience to my students and working with them. In 2018 summer, I graduated from Ithaca College with a Master of Arts degree in Piano Performance. I have many experiences of playing recitals and concerts to the public, which has been one of the most valuable lesson in my pianist's life. And I also played the piano part in the orchestra for the concert band in Ithaca College from 2016 to 2017, which gave me more confidence in piano collaborative. I have taken the piano pedagogy course in my master degree, and got A for this course, which helped me collect many good and scientific methods of teaching piano. I am good at teaching children by playing games with them, and at the same time let them learn basic theory knowledge from the game.
I have two years experience teaching students play the piano in U.S, and before I came here, I had three years experience of teaching students learning piano in Shanghai, China. For different degrees students, I always have different methods to teach them, and let them enjoy every minute in the lesson. For young students, I would like to teach them basic simple pieces, and I will play the accompany part for them in each short piece, which can give them more opportunity to listen the thick harmony of music, and let them love playing the piano, even they are still the beginner for playing the piano. For advanced students, I would like to teach them more technique skills, emotional expressions musical background and performing experience in each lesson, which can help them understand deeply of learning different composers' music in various periods. I encourage all my students to play to the others and recitals, which will give them more confidence in performing and bring them a motivated attitude of practicing.
For beginning students like young students, I typically start with Piano Adventure as the textbook. Once they have progressed of study, I would like to introduce some solo repertoires with beautiful melody line for their recital performance. And in each lesson, I will play the accompany part for young students, which can bring them more fun of learning short pieces, and enjoy studying. For adults, I would like to talk with them, and find out a good way that they are interested in of studying, and give them more space of choosing repertoires for learning.
Helping students to stimulating their interests of learning music is one of the most important thing! Therefore, I will give them enough space to find and develop their interest. I will help them to set up many realistic goals in each lesson, and bring them more passion for learning and practicing. I will be patient to all my students, even towards their mistake. Making mistake is not a bad thing during studying, the way to correct and keep learning is much more valuable. Therefore, I would like to praise my students in their every good expression, but never criticize them, instead of criticizing, I prefer to give them more available suggestions for learning.
