Teachers Certification in The O'Connor Method
I'm a classically trained violinist, violist and pianist. I received my Bachelors degree and Masters Degree in Music from Florida International University's School of Music.
I currently perform and teach around the Greater Miami area, and have had the opportunity to share my music all the way to Israel, Ireland, and Cuba.
I have been teaching music for almost 10 years and have experience with a wide age group.
I took the Teachers Certification Course for the O'Connor Method which is a country/americana style violin method book. Which I use to supplement the classical method books I use.
My teaching experience dates back to when I was a Junior in high school. I began teaching some group guitar classes and violin lessons. I believe that it's important to instill a love for music as that is what will keep the student practicing throughout the years. I am certified to teach the O'Connor method. A fun fiddling style of music. And also teach the essentials through classical music. I'm open to supplementing with any other songs the student would want to learn. I encourage my students to perform in solo recitals, or orchestral performances, and gain as much hands-on experience as they can.
With young beginner string students, I typically will start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. After a few weeks of that, the student will have grasped the fundamentals. and then I will introduce the Suzuki method, supplementing with the O'Connor Method. For piano I generally will start with the Suzuki method and supplement with any songs the student is interested in learning. For Adults I try to find out what style of music the student is interested in, and how much experience they have and structure my lessons accordingly to keep the student engaged and ensure they are having fun!
Nothing is more rewarding than having a student fall in love with music and playing it for themselves and others. It is important to me that each student not only progresses in skills and technique, but also gains a deeper love and understanding of music. I believe playing in a group with other like-minded musicians is essential for every musician. That is why I strongly encourage my students to join an orchestra, ensemble, band, or any other group that interests them. I also encourage my students to perform as much as they can.
My daughter loves taking lessons with Ms. Yasmin!
Yasmin is great and she sends us a great piano book link before the class. That’s very helpful!
My son loved his lesson. Yasmin was kind and patient with my beginner! He can't wait to do it again.
