Originally from South Korea, I've been here in the states for 6 years now. I just came here two weeks ago from Little Rock, Arkansas. I'm an undergraduate BA music major in piano at UALR (University of Arkansas at Little Rock).I started playing the piano at 7 years old. When I was in university, I had master classes by Artspress guest artists Nikita Mndoyants and Di Wu, and Dmitry Alexeev, as well as being known at an Arkansas Symphony Orchestra guest pianist. I've been playing the piano for 15 years as a church accompanist. I currently perform as a church accompanist at a church in Little Rock for 6 years. During summer 2012, I held a piano teaching internship at Rhythm 88 Music School in Little Rock, Arkansas. I performed at Carnegie Weill Hall with my friend, cellist Kyung-min Kang 2013 summer. The cellist won 3rd place in the American Protege Competition. The winners recital was held during July 2013 at Carnegie Hall in New York City. I had a senior recital at Stella Boyle Smith Hall at UALR with my colleague, violinist Rachel Herman, spring of 2014.
I began teaching private lessons part time 6 years ago here in America. I worked at music academy to teach beginner/younger kids piano. I'm expecially good at teaching beginner. I have lots of experice with kids so I can help them to play the piano with fun and joy! Also I've been playing the piano for 15 years and served as church accompanist both Korea and America. I performed as a church accompanist at Disciples Korean Church in Little Rock for 5 years. With all my experience as private/music academy teacher and church accompanist, I have good teaching and playing skill. I can give my students motivation and joy of music too.
In my piano lesson, I teach my student theory, sight-reading, aural skill, playing scales, and playing pieces from different time periods. Student will excel in piano study provided they practice consistently with the right attitude and mindset. I usually spene 2/3 time to use playing the piano and 1/3 for music theory.Music education helps develop lifetime skills such as self-discipline that helps with goal setting and task completion skills, improved concentration levels, self-esteem, patience, and joy!
I believe that the role of a teacher is to guide and to help their students to develop a lifelong love of learning. I offer my students a balanced approach in learning music. I believe anyone can be taught to play an instrument at any age, if genuine interest is there. With more than 5 years of teaching piano working with children and adults, I hope I can help you or your child appreciate and grow the love of music.
