Hello, and nice to meet you! I am a skilled musician and teacher, bringing years of experience in performance and teaching to the table. My passion for teaching was grounded when I learned from the very best around the world. I learned through my own teachers that teaching can elevate an individual to higher heights and bring joy to those who learn from you. I graduated with a degree in piano performance from California State University in 2018 on the Dean's List and top of my class in pedagogical classes on teaching piano. I am currently teaching from my home, in studios, and through online.
My teaching career began when I was in high school. My primary goal at the time was to gain experience in teaching and with it, brought much trial and error. I honed my expertise in music and teaching, while learning about the countless way in which a student learns. I submitted a proposal to present in Texas and was selected to present my lecture on "Teaching Methods", and gained much insight into the learning process of students. After deciding to enter into CSULB on a generous scholarship, I pursued a further knowledge for pedagogy (teaching) and began diversifying my students in a studio setting. Upon graduating, I sought out more studio teaching experience and now am working with my own private students from home.
With beginners, I provide material that teaches about finger numbers, rhythm, note learning, and basic material. As the student progresses, I asses their learning style and provide the necessary material and suggestions as to what books and miscellaneous learning tools the student will need. My preferred method of teaching is through the book, Piano Adventures by Faber & Faber. These books are divided into a lesson book, theory book, and performance book with the levels increasing from 1 to 2A to 2B and so forth.
I believe that it is imperative that the student has fun, while staying focused and learning as much through a lesson as possible. I play musical games and analogies to assist with the memorization of finger numbers, note names, and finger scales. I make sure that the student is focused and is enjoying the lesson and if not, I am able to change my method to fit my student's needs, all while maintaining professionalism and communication with the parent. If I see that the student is not having fun, I do my very best to change it up and provide different and fun songs students would enjoy.
