I am a dedicated musician and educator with a strong belief in the transformative power of music. Holding a Doctorate in Violin Performance from the esteemed Peabody Conservatory, I have been fortunate to study under renowned mentors such as Violaine Melançon, Vadim Gluzman, and Matvei Lieberman. My academic journey has taken me from Baltimore to Chicago to Jerusalem, exposing me to a rich tapestry of musical traditions that I passionately integrate into my teaching approach. I perform regularly as a solo and chamber musician, and have performed on stages worldwide in the US, Europe, and Israel.
My experience spans a rich tapestry of teaching roles that have allowed me to engage with students across various age groups and backgrounds. I've conducted masterclasses at esteemed institutions like the University of Northern Iowa and Towson University, instilling my passion for the violin and music education in young minds. My dedication to chamber music extends beyond performance, as I take on the role of Chamber Strings Coordinator and Coach at the Leon Fleisher Academy, overseeing curriculum design, repertoire selection, and fostering musical growth in chamber settings. My tenure as Founder and Director of The Chamber Encounters Music Academy and Baltimore Bows showcases my commitment to cultivating young talent through innovative curricula, directing orchestras, and coaching chamber groups.
My teaching philosophy revolves around nurturing musical independence among my students. It is my goal that they can confidently approach a piece, making informed decisions about both technical and musical aspects. To facilitate this, I employ creative mnemonic techniques, transforming complex concepts into catchy and memorable phrases. By integrating multiple schools of music and violin playing, including Russian, French, and American traditions, I provide students with a holistic foundation. My approach blends technical exercises inherited from pedagogues like Ivan Galamian with interpretive insights gained from world-class musicians. This well-rounded approach equips students with the tools they need for success.
I consider myself a versatile educator, adapting my teaching to meet the individual needs and aspirations of each student. I prioritize cultivating musical independence, empowering students to make well-informed decisions in their playing. Drawing on my background studying diverse violin schools, I guide students in gathering a wide range of information and applying it practically. Be it refining technique, interpreting complex compositions, or overcoming performance anxiety, my approach is flexible and tailored. I take pride in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment, allowing students to explore their unique musical paths. It is a joyous privilege to embark on the transformative journey of music with my students, and I find inspiration in their growth and discoveries every day.
