Hi! My name is Yonatan and I am a pianist, trombone player, composer, and orchestral conductor in Rochester, NY. Since the beginning of my musical studies, I have always loved teaching others and seeing students and peers grow musically! My music career began at the Conservatory of Milan, Italy, where I studied Trombone Performance and Music Composition from 2013 to 2018. In December 2022, I graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia with my bachelor's degree in Music Composition, and I am currently studying Orchestral Conducting at Eastman School of Music in Rochester. I am excited to be able to offer private lessons through this platform, and I can't wait to work with you soon! Cheers!
I began teaching music in 2013. At the time, I was working with a local music school, teaching Music Theory and Music History to kids aged 5-18. Three years later, in 2016, I opened my own private piano studio. The studio, in my hometown of Milan, remained open until 2019 when moved to Philadelphia, PA. Since then, I have been teaching and tutoring music students at every level; from grade school to college. When I teach, I always encourage my students to explore different genres, styles, and artists to find what best suits them! Having fun and finding what YOU are passionate about is fundamental!
When teaching students I always create custom lesson plans and materials. Every student is unique, so why should all lessons look the same! In the first few classes, I focus on finding what kind of music my student is passionate about, and what methods of instruction works best for them. Then, week by week, I work on technique and technical fundamentals in a way that is closely related to the music we are looking at. That way, practicing these necessary skills is never boring! Lastly, I always encourage the students to explore on their own, and see what works for them.
Studying music is a process of never-ending exploration. Therefore, sparking creativity and curiosity in children and adults alike is my number one priority. When a student develops a curious mindset about their instrument and the sounds they can get out of it, they will continue to investigate, experiment, and improve beyond the weekly lessons. That is when I know I have done my job! Moreover, setting the students up for success is key. A series of well-balanced, smaller steps, help the student feel accomplished and keep them from getting bored!
