Overview:

I am a current DMA candidate and teaching assistant at LSU. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance from UC Santa Barbara, and a Master of Music degree in flute performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at CSU Long Beach. I have also recently obtained a performance diploma at Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. I have performed in various venues across the United States, as well as Taiwan, Thailand, France and Germany. I am an avid early music player, and also plays the traverso (Baroque flute).

EXPERIENCE

I had begun teaching flute lessons during my undergraduate degree, and have more than 10 years of experience. I have taught private lessons in my own studio, also at afterschool institutes/programs such as Orchepia School of Music in Diamond Bar, CA, and Kid's Orchestra in Baton Rouge, LA. Accomplishments of my students have include first chair in school band, top prizes in local competition, and principal flute in youth orchestras. I teach students of all ages and level, and I hope everyone can find joy in learning.

METHODS USED

I believe each student is different and enjoy developing a unique approach for each students. I also tailor the lessons to each students need. I have taught beginners from scratch, students who need help in band, and also students who are preparing for college auditions. Since I have studied the flute myself for over 20 years, and am currently the teaching assistant at LSU flute studio, I have a vast amount of experience and knowledge in flute pedagogy. I am well-versed in every genre of flute music from Baroque to contemporary period, but can also incorporate genres such as pop or jazz music to fit the students' desire or need.

LESSON STYLE

I have once heard that the pursuit of music leads to a lifetime of happiness, and I am a firm believer in that mantra. My ultimate goal is for all my students to find joy in learning, studying, and playing music. Therefore, I often tried to make my lessons engaging and enjoyable. My students not only play the notes on the page, but learn about the background of the music they play, the history and the aerodynamics of the instrument that they play. My students are not only great flute players but are real musicians, no matter what age and level.
