My love for music began when I was in fourth grade, and had a teaher that provided me with such a positive experience that I could not see my life with out music in it! I want to give students the same kind of positive experience I experienced! I hope to inspire students, and spark their passion for music! In 2013, I graduated from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. During my time at Bloomsburg I had an opportunity to perform with the Jazz Ensemble, Marching Band, Concert Band, and Wind Ensemble. I was able to travel to New Orleans to perform in the Crescent City Jazz Festival with the Jazz ensemble. I was also provided the oppurtunity to perform with the Bloomsburg University Community Orchestra as featured soloist at their Symphony Ball.
In college I began my teaching career. I started teaching private lessons, band classes, and General Music classes. I continue to teach currently as well. Teaching music is truly my passion! Through my teaching I want to spark a passion for music in my students. It is important to me that my students truly enjoy learning music. I find asking the student about what they hope to achieve, and helping them create goals helps them to truly enjoy their lessons. Allowing students to study various types of music helps them to stay motivated to practice on a regular basis.
For students just starting I like to use the Rubank Method Books to establish solid fundamentals. As students progress I like to base the lessons on the needs and interests of my students. I like to have students play a variety of types of music. This includes classic, jazz, pop, rock and more.
There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student progress and develop as a musician! In order for students to be successful they need to be encouraged and challenged throughout their musical studies. In order to do this, it is important to focus on the fundamentals of the instrument, as well as music that peeks the interest of the student. By having a mixture of fundamentals and music the students truly enjoys, they become driven and self-motivated. I also think it is key to acknowledge the accomplishments of my students! I hope to learn as much from teaching my students as they learn from my teaching.
