My passion is playing guitar, listening to music, and teaching music. I graduated from Arizona Conservatory for the Arts and Academics in 2015, and then graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor's Degree for Music Performance (Emphasis in Guitar). I have been in many bands, and have shared the stage at Alice Cooper's Christmas Pudding with Alice Cooper, Motley Crue, KISS, and others. I have studied classical guitar for many years, and have been performing rock and blues since I can remember.
My teaching started in High School, when i received a job offer to teach guitar at Rhapsody School of Music. I taught students for about 2 years, and once I graduated High School, I moved to Flagstaff to get my degree. Once I was living in Flagstaff, I taught and helped my peers with guitar and music theory, which made my love for music grow even more. I love working with any student that has an interest in music. I don't care if the student is 6 years old or 60 years old, it is never too late or too early to start learning an instrument.
For beginning students, I would like to start with knowing exactly where they are at with guitar; how to hold it, how to tune it, how strum it. Once the student understands those fundamentals, I like to start on open chords with easy fingerings (usually learning chords is very exciting since you can hear what you are accomplishing). With that, I would like to get to know the student and understand what the student wants out of the lessons; what they like to listen to, what they want to learn, what is difficult for them, etc.
My teaching style is this; if you have fun learning, you are going to have fun playing. Every player is at a different stage of learning, and that's what makes my job so amazing. I get to see where my students are at, and I work with each individual student knowing that I can make where they are at with guitar a fun learning experience. Learning an instrument is hard, and it takes time, but if you are having fun learning, and having fun playing, then there is no reason to quit or get discouraged. As a teacher, it is my job to steer my students into success, not push them.
