I am an avid singer, voice teacher, and music director. I spend the majority of my time performing and training others to perform. I am a tenor but am capable of training all voice types. My main avenues of performance are on the recital, and musical theater stages. I just finished up a production of "Children of Eden" in which I performed as Cain. I received degrees in both vocal performance and music education from Florida Gulf Coast University. At FGCU I performed in a number of operas, recitals and showcases that allowed to grow as a performer and musician.
I have been teaching privately for almost 4 years. I train students on whatever they want to learn, but make sure to incorporate the basic fundamentals needed for good singing I also spent time teaching in public schools as a high school choir director and elementary general music teacher. This gave me experience working with a wide age range of students, and helped me develop different techniques for different age groups. I have experience as a music director as well, and am currently working on two musicals.
All students come with different strengths and weaknesses so I decided what needs to be done after hearing them. Basic technique is very important to consistently sing in any style. A singer must have stable, and consistent breathing as well as proper vocal balance. I have a substantial number of excursuses to begin training these aspects with a singer at any level. I structure the first part of a lesson as technical work and the second half as repertoire. I will work on whatever type of music the students wants to work on.
My goal is always to make students self-sufficient. I want students to be able to warm-up, practice and improve on their own. I did not become a great singer until I learned how to workout problems for myself. I also want to see students gain confidence and believe that they can perform in public and accomplish their singing goals. Improving one's singing can be an avenue to gaining greater confidence in other aspects of life. It can help with social anxiety and make you more comfortable as a leader of people. It really does have the power to change your life in a way other instruments my not.
