I am currently a Commercial Music Violin Student studying with Dr. Stephanie Meyers at the University of Texas at El Paso. I have been teaching since 2017 with age groups ranging from 4 up to adults. I am passionate about string pedagogy because music develops students not only in the arts, but it also teaches them about discipline in a way that will be fruitful to them for the rest of their lives! For me, teaching how to play an instrument and giving lesson is about musical, professional, and self growth for every student because they learn an art from and that is something every student will remember for ever.
I started assisting the music teacher at Harmony School of Innovation for one year 2017-2018 as a part of a scholarship program that I was in. During my time here I helped in classrooms ranging from K-12th grade, I learned various classroom teaching methods for different age groups. Beginning of 2018, to the present, I also started working as a private teacher and orchestra teacher in a local program called String Project, based at UTEP. where music students from the university teach children from K-5th.
If the student is a beginner I will teach them proper technique, how to develop good habits at home, and I will also inform the parent to watch out for these aspects when they are practicing at home! We will be working on short excerpts from essential elements book, and then we will progress to Suzuki repertoire. If the student is intermediate I will work on Suzuki repertoire, and scales, also most of my private students are in an orchestra so we incorporate their school music in lesson as well. For advanced students, we will work on scales, etudes, and repertoire.
Every student is different, but I do want to make sure that the student progresses as smoothly as they can, I will push the student to do the best that they can because once they can do that they will succeed. I am very enthusiastic, energetic and patient so I try to keep my students busy, to the point that is manageable for them, also this way they will be playing more and they will also advance at a fast pace. Since every student is unique they all get a different sense of how lessons are, but all in common know that the only thing I expect out of it is them is that they try their best!:)
