Overview:
I'm a recent graduate from Moravian College, class of 2019 with a degree in Music. I've spend years performing in local bands before starting my degree. In college, I was the lead alto saxophone in the BIG BAND as well as Wind Ensemble. I've had experience playing around the work, participating in the Karel Velebný Summer Jazz Workshop in Frýdlant, Czech Republic. I've also had college experience playing in classical guitar in the Guitar Ensemble, and electric/acoustic guitar in various rock groups and one time gigs.
EXPERIENCE
Though I am a recent graduate, I've had a hand full of students over the years. I've been teaching for 2 years now and have loved it ever since. I have always encouraged students to practice regularly, which has lead to them progressively becoming proficient at their instrument. Not only that, but to never take anything less as a stylistic choice. It's a constant conversation, so both my students and I learn from each other. I've learned so much over my 14+ years of performing and would love to share my knowledge and skills with all!
METHODS USED
I have created an outline of books/pieces and what they will accomplish from beginner student to professional levels in both jazz and classical saxophone tracks. In both of my classical and jazz lessons (for beginners), we will start with Bruce Pearson's Standard of Excellence. From there, it’svery flexible in terms of pace and how quickly the students wants to learn and grow. For my guitar lessons, beginner students will start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements in their acoustic and electric lessons. From there, pieces of music that best fits and pushes the student's abilities will be selected.
LESSON STYLE
I'm very passionate about my art and love to see growth in everyone I teach! I push my students to strive for success, but at the same time my lessons are very relaxed and fun. Besides working on weekly selections, we will listen to examples, talk about a variety of topics including technique, musicianship, theory (primarily jazz lessons), as well as play duets and improvise together (jazz lessons). It's a complete auditory, visual, kinesthetic, and tactile learning experience from the ground up. My approach in all lessons becomes more constructivist as my students progress. Meaning, the student will slowly start to learn and discover on their own while I guide them through the process till there are completely independent, becoming self-educators.
