Overview:
I love teaching the trombone! I think more kids should check it out, and adults should continue playing throughout their lives even if it isn't a profession. I am a graduate from the Lamont School of Music in DU, and received my bachelor's at Cal State Northridge, both degrees in performance. I've played in venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York and the Kennedy Center in DC. I am classically trained but also love to play jazz music. My goal has always been to encourage young girls to play the trombone.
EXPERIENCE
For three years I was a camp counselor in the La Honda Music Camp (Hayward, CA). As a counselor, I looked after 10-12 middle school-aged girls, oversaw brass sectionals, coached trombone, and assisted in the junior wind ensemble. In high school I used to coach my classmates in the trombone section. In my grad school years I began to teach beginning piano and trombone. My hope when teaching music is that the kids have a lot of fun learning their instrument, so I always encourage them to learn songs they'd like to sing/play along to.
METHODS USED
For beginners, I like to start with the Standard of Excellence book 1, and intermediate students with book 2. The trombone is such a versatile instrument that there are tons of different styles of playing to practice. Depending on the student's level I will build curriculum for them. We will also play duets together, because it's very important to learn how to play well with others. Scales, lip slurs, and other exercises will be implemented as well. If the student has school music or solo repertoire they would like to work on we can do that as well, and for fun I always like to bring in some movie music.
LESSON STYLE
I believe lessons should be fun and engaging. I believe the most improvement in a student comes from practice time, so my goal as a teacher is to show the student how to practice most effectively by applying what they learned in their lessons in their practice sessions. If it is all right with them, we can record the lesson so they can go back and watch. As a teacher, I believe it is important to be positive and supporting, giving constructive criticism guide the student to play better while also boosting the student's confidence.

Zoe is great! She’s friendly and out going and our dog Zoey even likes her! She gets my son interested in playing harder material which motivates him to learn more. He’s playing scales and “songs” now and it’s only been a couple of weeks. I’m a proud and happy momma!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
