I’m a creative musician based in Memphis, Tennessee. I am a classical/jazz trombonist by training with additional experience as a composer, singer-songwriter and electronic musician. I live in the Cooper-Young area of Midtown, Memphis and teach from my home. I have equipment such as music stands, supplemental materials, and a few extra instruments that I can provide during a lesson. I generally use a method book for teaching band or orchestral private students. I also use other resources depending on the needs of the student. I always ask my students what they want to achieve and base my teaching on those goals. ( Of course, I provide guidance in making some of those goals!) I first started teaching during my sophomore year in college, teaching students how to prepare for the Iowa All-State Music Festival. I taught these students throughout my college years and saw many of them become successful trombone players, plus a few are now great band directors. Since I graduated college in 2013 I've been invited to be a brass clinician for multiple schools, a middle school solo contest judge, and as a musician in a wide variety of ensembles I work with fellow colleagues to create a memorable performance that audiences will enjoy. For some assigning certain things to practice and having the student keep track is a good motivator, for others its just asking them to look at the music. Motivations are different for every student and teacher. Once a rapport is established, I introduce material that is both accessible and challenging and help the student work through the music.
