For beginning students I teach my students using the Arban methods book. I do this to build consistency with slide positions. I also use my tuner and metronome to make sure students are playing in time and in tune.With out this stuff bad habits can happen from the start. The first time I began teaching music was shortly after graduating high school, and asking local band directors to get some experience with their summer band, and marching band programs. While studying music in college, I received further training in classrooms outside of music to further develop my skills. It was during this period I that began to find joy from one-to-one learning. While I intend to provide most of the educational material, I also encourage my students to bring what they want to learn as well for a well-rounded experience. Read More

For students who are just starting to play music, I make it a obligation to learn all of what they know about music and try to build from that. I teach all the basics first for the students and give them challenges to complete while in the lessons and give them work to complete while at home. I have teaching experience in several areas of music. In addition to directing middle school and high school bands in the public school setting, I have also taught music appreciation (both middle and high school level), kindergarten music, and philosophy courses to college undergrads. No matter the setting, I have always enjoyed developing a strong relationship with my students.
