Hello! I'm a recent graduate from Lawrence University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Instrumental/Choral/General Education finishing up my student teaching. My primary instrument's are bassoon and voice with guitar, ukulele and piano as secondaries but I have a deep love for learning new instruments and have gained intermediate proficiency in all western orchestral/concert band winds, strings and percussion with an emphasis in woodwinds, low brass and marching/concert percussion. I'm a firm believer in taking a student where they are and building off of their interests. Finding what a student is interested in and using that as a starting point is a part of my teaching approach. At the same time, there are some things that are critical to be taught at every level that should be incorporated on some level so there's a holistic and balanced education. When working in private lessons, I work with each student to set goals, both long and short term. I then assume the role of a guide whenever possible, rather than an authoritarian figure, so that sudents can discover concepts for themselves vs. having the information given to them. When students discover the concepts for themselves, they tend to understand them much better because they have learned them through practical use. Read More
