Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

As stress free as possible allowing the student to progress at their own but steady pace. To set realistic goals based on their own ability in addition to the time they have to devote to the trombone. I may occasionally talk about other interest the student may outside of music such as football, baseball, tennis ect. to keep the setting relaxed and comfortable. When students show effort I stay positive and give encouragement. Read More

I have taught in a variety of musical settings with a wide range of students and abilities. I have taught independently as well as for organizations such as the Youth Orchestra of Central NJ. In 2012 I worked for Camp Encore Coda where I taught trumpet lessons, directed the Symphonic Band, coached jazz combos, and taught music theory/musicianship class. My experience working as full time music faculty for Camp Encore Coda sparked my graduate research on overnight summer music camp, which has since been presented at three major professional conferences in the music education field at the state, national, and international level. For beginning students, I focus on the very first fundamentals of playing trombone and music which consists of simple music theory and fundamental technique of playing the trombone. Once those fundamentals are introduced and the students shows progression, I will assign etudes and solo repertoire to help improve on musicality and technique. I tend to perform for students in lessons so they can receive a better idea of how to play a specific passage as well as just playing fun pieces to get them excited in lessons. Read More

I use the musical methods that work and produce results for the indvidual - without overlooking the need to instill discipline and musical rudiments required for mastery. For brand new brass students, I begin with basics of embouchure formation, in a fun way... using a progression of "free buzzing", mouthpiece playing, ultimately leading to playing on the horn. This will take a few days to a week to establish. The result is a firm foundation and understanding that will last a lifetime. Read More

In the first lesson, I always make sure to spend the time gauging the student's skill level. For beginners, I will look to introduce them to Herbert L. Clarke's studies in technique for euphonium players. For trombones, I look to be sure they are hitting trombone positions accurately and quickly, using either the same Clarke book or by using the first exercises in Arban's essentials for trombone. At the intermediate level, I begin to use the Rochut etude books so that all students can grasp musicality and phrasing in a simple setting. Read More
