Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I am a young, enthusiastic music educator dedicated to providing positive musical experiences to every student I encounter. Earlier this year, I graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education with minors in secondary education and classical trombone performance. While in college, I performed in quite a few ensembles including the Howard University concert band, jazz ensemble, and the HU SHOWTIME Marching Band. I was in all of these ensembles for four years. For beginning students I use instrument appropriate lesson books that teach the fundamentals of music, the instrument and progressively allows the student to feel comfortable with the sound and feel of the instrument. As they progress I begin introducing solo pieces and instruction to strengthen techniques, embouchure, sight reading, and theory abilities. My lessons include theory, ear-training and voice training within the context of games and enjoyable activities, as well as technique appropriate to the solos students are working on. I talk about where the music comes from, the composers, and other ideas to make lessons more interesting. We often perform pieces for parents and siblings to show them our progress, and recitals are an exciting culmination of a unit. Read More

My first teaching experiences were with my father during solo and ensemble. Having hired me as an accompanist for his students, I found myself rehearsing these students moreso than accompanying them. From that point I felt encouraged to teach and help others perfect their craft. My biggest influences would have to be my past teachers, one of which taught me younger and the other as I matured. I believe that while learning to read and write sheet music, developing technique and feel, and understanding music theory are all important, the most integral part of learning an instrument - as fundamental as it sounds - is to use your ears!
