My experience as a musical theatre performer both onstage and in the pit, have given me many useful and resourceful teaching methods that have allowed a humble program in an urban district to blossom and thrive. In five years, the chorus of 18 singers reading lyrics sheets, has performed as guests throughout Hudson County and returned to the Teen Arts Festival with repertoire such as Mozart’s Ave Verum, Dan Davidson’s Ritmo, and several contemporary pieces. The methods that I choose to use with my students depends on what they want to learn. For three years I was a camp counselor in the La Honda Music Camp (Hayward, CA). As a counselor, I looked after 10-12 middle school-aged girls, oversaw brass sectionals, coached trombone, and assisted in the junior wind ensemble. In high school I used to coach my classmates in the trombone section. In my grad school years I began to teach beginning piano and trombone. My hope when teaching music is that the kids have a lot of fun learning their instrument, so I always encourage them to learn songs they'd like to sing/play along to. Read More

I have taught private trombone lessons while I was attending University of North Texas and taught trombone and piano for another private music company. I make sure to keep active on my trombone by playing in as many bands as possible and encourage my students to do the same. I want to pass on the excitement that I have enjoyed on the trombone to my students and use that as encouragement to practice often to get that much better. Read More
