I started teaching about fifty years ago including private instruction as well as coaching and conducting bands, orchestras and chamber groups. I have become a better teacher with age since I have picked up procedures and strategies which have proved effective in encouraging my students to make music. I am able to teach trombone and euphonium lessons to anyone and any age from those that have just started playing through those looking to just improve their musicianship. I tailor my methodology to the needs of my students, and I am willing to work with them to try and find the best way for them to learn. I am a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music I was lucky enough to be able to do both my master and my bachelor degrees there, as well as getting the chance to study and collaborate with many musicians from the Cleveland Orchestra. For beginning students, I combine multiple elements to understand the various aspects of their new instruments. With a combination of videos for inspiration, singing for audiation, and moving for connection to the instrument and how our muscles respond to it. My lessons rarely consist of sitting for the entire time. I believe that in the short time we have in lessons, it is more important to expose students to a variety of resources to investigate their new endeavor than it is to repeat repertoire for the sake of a quick result.
