My method depends on the student. Some need book work, some need to just be one with their instrument, and some need to listen and just admire some of the great players. I have a large amount of books I highly recommend of different techniques and musical challenges that I will often use, but I will also put the books away and work on the instrument itself. Instilling a fundamental mastery of the instrument and musicianship is my top priority, no matter how long it may take. My approach to methods will vary depending on the student. For beginners, I like using the Robert Getchell books, in addition to the My First Arban, Essential Elements, and my own exercises.
