Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

I generally use a method book for teaching band or orchestral private students. I also use other resources depending on the needs of the student. For some assigning certain things to practice and having the student keep track is a good motivator, for others its just asking them to look at the music. I first started teaching during my sophomore year in college, teaching students how to prepare for the Iowa All-State Music Festival. I taught these students throughout my college years and saw many of them become successful trombone players, plus a few are now great band directors. My teaching style is based around my love for storytelling and pictures. I will often ask students how a melodic line or etude makes them feel when they hear it or play it. I develop on this and start to guide the student to see the over arching theme of an etude and to develop a wide pallet of many colors to create a picture with their sound.
