I have taught trumpet, composition, and music theory lessons privately for almost 10 years. I am a recent graduate from the University of Oregon with a double Masters in Trumpet Performance and Composition. I have performed with many ensembles, including chamber, orchestra, and band, fulfilling a variety of roles such as performer, conductor, and administrator. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For some students, concepts come easily and their motivation is very clear, but for others, it's not always so easy.
