When I'm working with beginning students, my defaul method book is Essential Elements. However, if students have another book for a school band class, I am more then happy to work with them to preserve some line of consistency in the students education. As they progress, I look to find more advanced etude and solo books, focusing on music that is of interest to the student. My teaching experience began in 2008, when I began teaching private lessons on various instruments, on voice, and on conducting. I later went on to teach band and choir at Cedar Bluff High School in 2011. After this, I volunteered as the band director at Valley Head High School in 2014. I have enjoyed every moment of teaching music and have taken so much from the experiences that I've had. I have taught students interested in the genres of jazz, classical, and modern music, and value all 3 genres equally. I have played trumpet for 15 years. Music has always been a passion of mine, and I love instilling that passion into my students. I was the lead trumpet player and soloist for North Park University’s Jazz Ensemble and Concert Band. My senior year I was the first non-music major to ever be awarded ‘Most Outstanding Musician’ in Jazz Ensemble. I received this for repeated high level of musical performance, and mentoring younger musicians within the band. Read More
