Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.
lessons are available in the following areas:

I use my own technique exercises that I write and cater for each of my students. I am a huge fan of the Arban's technique book for brass, but I like to keep lessons fun with songs that challenge my students at their level. Once the student has progressed to the intermediate level - solid fundamentals, musicianship, and a desire for learning - I introduce solo repertoire. These solo pieces range from simple etudes to full orchestral arrangements for their specific instrument. Read More

I video lessons and send them to students for sake of review. I also have online tools to send them extra notes to help retain what was taught in each lesson and help them in their individual practice time. Music is much like math where one skill leads to another which leads to another, and they all have to be retained. So I work to ensure students retain and know what is taught by heart. Read More

For young beginners, I recommend starting with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for Band. Once the student has grasped the fundamentals, we will introduce solo pieces appropriate for the child's skill level and purposes (preparing for a performance vs learning for fun, for example). For older students, we will work quickly to establish a firm knowledge of the fundamentals before moving on to more complex pieces based on the student's interests. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet, Euphonium, French Horn
I have found success teaching when I can relate what we are doing on the trumpet to other elements of students lives. When I was teaching in Boston, the only thing my kids seemed to care about was Angry Birds. Instead of fighting for the kids attention, I transcribed the Angry Birds theme and had them learn it by ear. After learning the song by ear, we would talk about the basic music theory behind the song and put names to the notes we just learned. Read More

My beginner students use the Essential Elements book. With that book, you can learn fundamentals in trumpet technique as well as counting. For all other students, I use the Herbert L. Clarke Technical Studies book and selections from the Arban's Conservatory Method. We cover a lot of etudes and techniques from the Arban's book. I also believe collaboration is important in lessons so often we will play duets together in lessons. Read More
