My experience as a teacher started when I was in high school, giving private lessons to local middle school and elementary school students. Ive continued giving private lessons as well as masterclasses, sectional work, and marching band coaching throughout college. Teaching is as much of a calling for me as is playing the trumpet. I always explore different methods that might fit the age and personality of the student but for keyboard lessons I have found success with the Alfred Piano Method. Instrumental lessons usually follow the method book that is selected by their school band director. Beyond that I have a large library of supplementary music to expand the students interest with new styles and composers.I'm very flexible with the method books and after I get to know the student I can select a method that would work the best for instruction. I have been teaching in various circumstances since 2010. I began with teaching middle school jazz sectionals, moved to high school marching band groups, and now teach masterclasses as well as private lessons. I have had the opportunity of teaching elementary aged students with Baton Rouge, LA's Kids' Orchestra program, and have taught college aged students through teaching assistantships and private lessons. My students have gone on to study their instruments in college, become teachers, and have grown to be more well rounded individuals. Read More

Whatever instrument private studies we are working on, a balanced approach of performance, literature, theory and technique is studied. Once the groundwork is established, we even work through composition on their chosen instrument. Students work at their own pace. I have some students who move quite swiftly through their levels and that is great. Others may need more time and that is fine. I do find that students who utilize regular and purposeful home practice will tend to get through levels a fair amount quicker. Read More
