My teaching experience has covered various situations, styles, and instruments. During my undergraduate work I taught general music at an elementary school, and did my student teaching as an instrumental teacher in an elementary school, and as a band teacher in a middle school. In my junior year I spent three weeks teaching in Uganda, where I taught high school aged beginners and intermediate brass and percussionists. During my graduate degree I taught students of various levels and ages privately, and also taught the Trumpet Techniques class, where I taught non trumpet playing music education majors the basics of how to play trumpet as well as how to teach it in their future classrooms. My pathway as a music educator began after college and graduate work in flute performance when I worked with a youth orchestra and taught flute lessons for the first time. These experiences inspired me to move from Maine to Ohio to obtain a teaching license and a Master’s in music education. I am a native of Houston, Texas and a trumpet player. I attended Stephen F. Austin State University for my Bachelor's Degree,and afterwards I decided to move to Cincinnati to study with a few of the trumpet players in the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. I recently graduated from Miami University with a Master's Degree in Music Performance on trumpet. I am currently a freelance musician with 5KBrass and perform regularly in the Cincinnati area. I began teaching private French horn students in 2011, and I have been teaching music in various ways since then. I have been both a general music and a band teacher, working with students in Preschool through Eighth Grade. With my private students I emphasize regular practice as the best way to improve and keep having fun with an instrument. I also seek out opportunities for my students to perform and attend concerts that may widen their musical horizons. Read More
