For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Essential Elements of Band by Hal Leonard and Tradition of Excellence by Bruce Pearson and Ryan Nowlin. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce more advanced method books such as J.B. I believe that no two students are alike; for each of my students, I create an individual, custom-tailored plan and routine to help solve the most challenging issues in their playing. I advise my students to keep a practice log and write down everything they accomplish and challenges they notice in a practice session. What went well? What didn't go so well? I am an experienced teacher, with many years of experience teaching young children of all ages and abilities. I also have a lot of experience working with adults, mostly beginnners. I have performed with several orchestras throughout my career, as well as in many piano recitals. I consider French Horn my primary performing instrument, and piano my secondary. I graduated from University of Hartford’s Hartt School of Music with a degree in Acoustical Engineering, concentration in Trumpet in 2017. I graduated as the valedictorian of my class. I have played in many places across the state of CT and have had many opportunities to perform and learn from many incredible instructors. I normally use the Standard of Excellence method books for most of my students; however, I am open minded to adjusting to each individual student's musical needs, whether it be Jazz, Classical, or whatever style music the student is focusing on. For Drummers, I prefer the Haskell Harr Method, or the Buddy Rich Method Book, as well as the Breeze Easy Method Book. For piano instruction, I prefer the Faber Piano Method Books, as they are tailored to the students' individual needs. Read More
