My teaching experience dates back to 15 years ago. I was motivated by my previous teachers and wanted to do the same. I have taught all levels of development ranging from beginner to College level. I have taught at Community Music schools up to and including Oberlin College. On each level, I always find it a challenge to keep the interest of the student at the forefront. I have been playing the trumpet for over 20 years and enjoy spreading my love of music. I graduated from SUNY Fredonia in 2007 with a degree in Music Education and from Western Michigan University in 2009 with a Master's of Music in Trumpet Performance. After graduation from WMU, I taught in various school districts around New York as a substitute teacher and music teacher. My love for teaching began as a peer tutor in college. I tutored students in piano, guitar, bass ear training, and music theory. I began to love teaching when I noticed the change and progress it creates within people. While in college, I taught at a musical theatre camp as a music teacher. I taught music theory, ear training, and vocal music. Right after I graduated college I was accepted into the music education program at Teachers College Columbia University where I received my masters degree in music education along with certification in New York state to teach Pre-K through 12. These were wonderful opportunities to teach peers and those who have been in the music education field much longer than the four of us. Although teaching large groups is exciting, nothing beats one-on-one lessons with a student. I have had and taught plenty of these lessons for several instruments including flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, french horn, euphonium, tuba, percussion, piano, guitar, and bass guitar. As an educator my goal and ambition isn't necessarily to develop future professional musicians. (although I'm happy to do so) For me the more important and rewarding factor is assisting in growing a flame of a passion, love understanding of music performance into a wild fire! I feel the world is a better place the more people who have a first hand understanding and appreciation for the arts. Students do tend to have a better experience the better they get ,so I do my best to inspire them to develop a passion for music/trumpet/jazz, whatever it is that "lights their fire". Read More
