For students of all ages and skill sets I first like to establish a personalized daily routine of fundamental exercises such as long tones, lip slurs, tone production and articulation if not already had. I use the Bill Adam approach to teaching my establishing a strong core understanding and playing of the instrument. I enjoy teaching all ages from the very beginning student to the more advanced students and can adapt my teaching methods accordingly. I feel each student learns differently and that we are all individuals with different personalities and learning styles. I enjoy the challenges of creating and implementing various teaching techniques so as to accommodate their individuality and so each student will become successful at mastering their instrument. As a musician myself, I enjoy the cooperative element of music so I readily have an instrument around that I can play along with the student to help further innate musicianship for all skill levels of instrumentalists. For beginners I enjoy using Standards of Excellence from Kjos publishing or Sound Innovations from Alfred publishing and custom tailor exercises to fit the strengths and challenges of every student I teach. My #1 passion is teaching music. I'm currently the band teacher at Cary Christian School. I've been playing trombone professional for almost 20 years, my most recent gigs were playing for Princess Cruises full time, and been teaching for 20 years. My passion for playing isn't what it used to be, so I'm focusing my musical efforts on teaching.
