Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. My methods are based primarily on the needs and the interests of the student. I am very flexible and can adapt my teaching to fit these needs and interests. Students come from many different backgrounds and teaching to the ways they are either most comfortable or to fit the needs of their public school music teacher (if applicable) is essential for success. For all ages I like to begin with a skills test. Where they show me where they currently stand with their instrument. From there I refer to books by Trevor Wye to give students a strong fundamental basis in tone, technique, articulation, intonation/vibrato, and breathing/scales. From there the lessons would be tailored to where the student wants to go with their learning. Learning to perform and understand music is a difficult journey, but one which also reaps great rewards. Performing great music with a skilled ensemble for an appreciative audience is, in my opinion, one of the great joys of life. Unfortunately, beginners are easily frustrated by their lack of facility on their instrument. I believe the teacher must guide the student toward positive practice habits including daily listening and performing, give the student unwavering support and encouragement, provide a judgment-free learning environment while also providing constructive feedback, and most importantly, be a musical role model.
