My first experience teaching music began immediately after graduation college and had continued to the present day. Lively and Encouraging! Music is tough and can be very stressful! I stay upbeat and optimistic. It is important that a student is aware that practice and progress is NOT easy and it WILL be frustrating and aggravating. It is how you deal with that frustration that makes the player great! I want my students to know that I will always be a reliable source of knowledge and that they can always depend on me when they can't seem to master a certain skill or technique. Read More

Beginning students will most likely be playing from whatever band book their school uses. If the student is not in middle school yet, then they will most likely start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. As students progress, more material will be added later. For intermediate students, I would begin to add solo repertoire and would most likely also add the Clarke Characteristic Studies. With my more advanced students there is more variation as these are typically the students that have all district, solo contests, and college auditions to prepare for. Read More
