This is a great, simple and streamlined approach to developing instrument technique and music reading skills. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. For beginning students who are children, I typically begin with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements; as well as other, more auditory practices that do not require a book. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce other solo repertoire pieces that I feel the student is ready for, and assist in musical execution for future recitals. For adults, I try to first find out what the student is interested in, and then guide my lessons in such a way that would be beneficial for their goal, as well as their musicianship. Read More

Outside of performing, Tommy teaches brass extensively both online and in person with 10 years of international teaching experience. He serves as the brass faculty of the Performing Arts Center of MetroWest, and teaches brass at Note-worthy Experiences Music Studio and Brimmer and May School. Over the years, he also maintains a private studio of horn, trumpet, trombone and euphonium students of all ages, located throughout the United States and Hong Kong across six different time zones.
