For students of ages 13-18, it is essential to understand the student's experience level and where they are musically and otherwise. I will adjust my style to the needs of the student, if their interest is purely personal enjoyment up to college audition requirements. I have been playing viola for almost 20 years and each day I grow more and more passionate for my instrument. I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and began my musical studies on viola at the age 4. I graduated from Baylor University in 2013. For more advanced players or even older students, I tend to match a certain technique book, Baroque-Classical literature, or Suzuki Book level to their skills sets, such as Mazas or Sevcik etudes, or Bach Suites/Partitas to further boost the skills they have while targeting skills that need more foundation. I want my students to have fun, but to also engage in very structured learning. All students must find time to practice during the week, but the parents must be a huge part of helping their child learn this new instrument. We will set weekly, realistic goals for each lesson. During the lesson, we will review the last concept that was learned, go over the lesson for the day and then create a lesson for the following week and be sure that each lesson is explained and understood.
